The justification in this case was to see how well it works. Going forward, having the OS on the SD card frees up the hard drives to do whatever we want. I haven't decided on the final drive configuration, but it will probably to have the backup OS on the mirrored pair along with the! Tech directory. Yes that leaves massive amounts of unused disc space, but there's no point in buying smaller hard drives just because.
A third drive is basically stand-alone. It's used to bring a copy of the data down from the cloud. Remember, there's no "live" data on this server. It just backs up the cloud storage so we have a local copy. The fourth drive is unused and will happily wait to see if it's ever needed. I don't mirror those last two drives because I want to occasionally take one out of service, box it up, and put it on a shelf as permanent offsite backup.

We had same problem here in my company with a couple of G8 servers. ILO Version were 2. The only way we could fix it was downgrading the ILO firmware to 2. Boot from the USB and select interactive updates. After downgrading, boot a couple of times and the issue will dissapear. Then you will able to update again to ILO 2. Turn on suggestions. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type.

You can install it on any device that has connectivity to the problem server. In my case I just installed it on the HP server displaying the error. Simply open notepad, put in the contents below and save it in XML file format. If all goes well, the ILO should drop for a small period of time before coming back up and displaying no SD card issues. The same process can be used on other XML scripts.

With this tutorial, It showed OK for a little bit and then went back to being degraded. I cannot restore my Intelligent Provisioning software or do anything related to flashing the nvram. I have tried just about everything, and I am about to chalk it up to that I have a bricked HP server, which sucks because these things are supposed to be enterprise grade but yet are such delicate pieces of machinery.

To fix, I went to the site Cameron provided with all the sample XML scripts from HPE, opened one of those in notepad, copied the quote character from there, replaced all the quotes in my XML file with that one, saved my file, and everything then worked just fine.

Post to Cancel.It appears that this setting causes the ESXi 5. In that way ESXi can manage the power settings as far as I know. Some of these BIOS changes includes the power profile as well as disabling the array controller. So far, the simple fix is to just power off the blade and power on again. The previously changes to BIOS settings remain intact and the server works as expected. We have a ticket open too.

This is some really good information you are giving me here. Could you give me the Ticket Number so we can tell HP that more people are experiencing the same issues and maybe let them prioritize things? Problem later is the password, no upper and numbers should be allowed, even it accepts while installing, however after completing the installation, unable to get the password working.
So gone with the normal password with no upper case and numbers, and Later I changed it. We run Vmware 5. Did you manage to progress this with HP at all?
Just had some quick feedback from HP technical support — their development team are aware of the issue and will be releasing an update be it iLO or bios firmware in mid-to-late November! With vSphere 5. HP confirmed that there will be an update available mid November. I had something similar happen. That will completely reset the e-fuse and take the blade down. After that, I powered the blade off, and when I turned it back on, it all worked.
Hi guys, HP got in contact with us this morning and provided a link to the new update. HP has released an advisory document. It works fine with ILO4 v2. I was not aware of this problem and, perhaps by coincidence, I altered the power setting to maximum performance in BIOS just prior to running an automated SPP install.
After ILO v2. This server running ESXI 5. When the server again was detected and automatically started, as per policy, ESXi boots again…. Just to add one more to this list…. I just updated to SPP Glade I came across this site. I was just about to get HP on the phone. We faced the same issue for BLC Gen8, Changed the power mode from Balanced to Maximum performance and rebooted the host, 1st time it failed but rebooted the host 2nd time and worked perfectly.

In our case our system shipped with basic iLO support, which gave us the ability to remotely power on or off the system or provided remote console support which ended as soon as the OS started to boot. Depending on the installation, many users can probably get by without the advanced features, but when tying the server into large scale-out environments, the advanced iLo featureset can really streamline remote management. The rail kit system offers tool-free installation for racks with square or round mounting holes and features an adjustment range of inches and quick release levers.
Installation into telco racks requires a third-party option kit. The sliding-rack and cable management arm work together, allowing IT to service the DLp by sliding it out of the rack without disconnecting any cables from the server. Buyers opting for a more basic approach can still buy the DLp without rails, or with a basic non-sliding friction mount.
There is space for an optional optical drive at to the left of the hot plug bays. With a quick glance of the status LEDs on the front, users can diagnose server failures or make sure everything is running smoothly.
If no failures have occurred, the system health LEDs are green. If a failure has occurred, but a redundant feature has enabled the system to continue running, the LED will be amber. If the failure is critical and causes shutdown, the LED illuminates red. The level of detail that HP put into the DLp is fairly impressive at times, with items as simple as drive trays getting all the bells and whistles.
The drive tray includes rotating disk activity LEDs, indicators to tell you when a drive is powered on, and even when not to eject a drive. At times when it seems that all hard drives or SSDs get simple blinking activity LEDs, HP goes the extra mile to provide users with as much information as they can absorb just by looking at the front of the server. Connectivity is handled from both the front and rear of the DLp.
Internally, HP put substantial effort into making the ProLiant DLp Gen8 easy to service while packing the most features they could into the small 2U form-factor. The first thing buyers will notice is the cabling, or lack thereof, inside the server chassis. Many of the basic features are routed on the motherboard itself, including what tends to be cluttered power cabling.
